Jaren Scott | Owner | Level 1 CrossFit Trainer

I started my CrossFit experience January 2010 at #207lbs.  I thought I was “strong” and “in-shape” but I had no idea. McCall got me a “CrossFit Foundations” for Christmas after hearing me say I’d like to work on my endurance & cardio for some upcoming hunts I had. CrossFit has changed my view of health and fitness entirely. I currently weigh #167 – for those of you who don’t like math (McCall), that is a 40lb difference.  I am stronger, leaner, and more fit than I have ever been. I qualified and competed in Denver, CO at the CrossFit Games Regional competition in 2011.

I love to hunt, hike, fish, mountain bike, etc. – anything that gets the adrenaline flowing and is done outside is optimal.  I’ve been a hunting guide (in both Utah and Nevada) since middle school and love to share my passion with others.  Whether in the backcountry of the Uinta Mountains or Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim in the Grand Canyon, extreme backpacking hunts and excursions are my favorite. I have been involved in competitive sports for over 20 years from high school football, wrestling, and soccer to running marathons and now adventure races.

I am a graduate of SUU in Chemistry/Criminal Justice and have my Master’s degree in Industrial Management.  I am currently the Solid Waste Superintendent for Summit County where I oversee the landfills, recycling programs, and trash collection.

I would say that consistency has been my greatest ally on my journey to health and fitness. Consistency in showing up to work out and eat healthy.  Have I been perfect?  No, but I have done pretty well.  If you are consistent, you will see growth on a continual basis.  That’s one of the things I love most about CrossFit – I continually see new progress and achieve new goals. I go through phases where I work on my endurance to prepare for adventure races, and then turn around and focus on strength to prepare for a power lifting competition. CrossFit allows me to have the best of both worlds.

I have had the opportunity in the last 4 years to learn from and coach alongside some excellent trainers. I enjoy working with athletes of ALL ages and abilities with different goals and helping them feel good about themselves. I look forward to sharing what I have learned and the experience I have gained with our members at CrossFit Vapor!

My journey to CrossFit didn’t start with an athletic or gymnastics background. I started CrossFit when Harper (our baby) was 3 weeks old. I had zero “athletic” background. I danced my whole life and exercised just enough to not be fat. I had never played any sport, run a race (or more than 2 miles in my life), or done gymnastics. Jaren had started CrossFit about a year before, and I had several friends who loved it, and saw great results. I knew I wanted to try it and told myself that, love it or hate it, I would stick it out for 6 months before I made a decision. It only took one class and I was hooked!

I had always been nervous about lifting weights because I didn’t want to “get bulky”. It’s funny because once I was hooked on CrossFit, I stopped worrying about my size. I cared more about things like my workout scores, my maxes, and Rx-ing workouts, than how much weight I had lost or how much more I wanted to lose, and in 3 months I had lost 20 pounds and dropped 4 pant sizes. After 6 months of training I lost 10 more pounds and was down another pant size. I am leaner and more tone than I ever thought I could be. I found a groove with my food and exercise. I competed in my first CrossFit competition and finished 3rd against some pretty stiff competition. I ran my first 5k in 23:47. For a dance team coaching, hair-styling girl who loves heels, fake lashes and anything that sparkles, I have surprised myself!

Don’t get me wrong, I know I have a long way to go, and I have a lot to work on. But I’m proud of what I’ve worked for and earned. I want to be better FOR me, not better THAN someone – that’s what keeps me coming back!

Before moving to Heber in 2013, I spent 8 years as a successful University & High School Dance Team Coach. I also had a small salon in Cedar where I did hair & spray tans. I love coaching & I love making people feel good about themselves, so the transition to CrossFit trainer felt like a natural progression! I can’t wait to be apart of the great community I know we will have at CrossFit Vapor.

I was introduced to CrossFit in 2007 by a friend that was in the military.   With my background in wrestling, boxing, and football I quickly fell in love with CrossFit.  I liked the intensity and variety of work that was available.  I was living in Alaska, were I was raised, and began following the CrossFit main page workouts as best as I could working out in my garage.  Then in May of 2012 the CrossFit HQ came to Alaska to hold a Level 1 trainer course and I jumped at the chance to get my certification.  Later that year Mat-Su CrossFit opened up in my town and I began training there.

It has always been a dream of mine to work as a trainer and someday own a gym of my own.  When I moved my family from Alaska to Utah in the Fall of 2012 I had no idea that part of that dream was about to come true.  It was soon after moving to Utah that I met Jaren and McCall, and began working out and training at their gym.  I love working out at CrossFit Vapor. The training and culture of the gym is true to the heart of CrossFit, and the results of the training speak for itself.

My family and I love the beauty of the Heber Valley and the fun of the outdoors.  We enjoy spending time hiking in the mountains and playing in the lake.  I know that the culture of a healthy active life that my family is developing as we work, play and work out together will allow us to have many more years and countless memories to make, while enjoying this great country.

I look forward to working with the great people of this community as they begin their journey to finding their true potential as athletes and are able to enjoy the many adventures that there new found fitness is sure to open to them.

 

Cami Taylor | Level 1 CrossFit Trainer

I started Crossfit January of 2010, fell in love and quickly moved to get certified as a CrossFit Trainer in 2011. Right away I bought into a gym and was co-owner of St George CrossFit for 2 years. My husband Waco and I relocated to Heber in July, and that move brought me to CrossFit Vapor!

I come from a Gymnastics and Track and Field background. Prior to starting Crossfit I taught spin classes and bootcamp type classes at a rec. center in St George Utah. I have always been into fitness and have always made it a priority in my life. I have tried several different fitness programs, diet plans, and work out regiments non of which have compared to my love and passion for CrossFit. It has changed my life in so many ways. It has changed my perspective on fitness and shown me the difference between being fit, feeling fit and looking fit.

For most of my life I have struggled with body image and how important it is to look a certain way – that has played games with my mind and limited me on what I could be. I played around with physique and bikini competitions, thinking that is how I wanted to look. I thought it was then that I would be the fittest, but I was wrong. CrossFit is so different! It’s not about what you look like, it’s about how you feel and truly loving what you do and surrounding yourself with people who motivate, drive and encourage you to be your very best. That is fitness! It’s my dream to compete, be strong, be healthy, and most of all to be happy. That is Crossfit!
